Born in 1977, Mikel Sierra spent his student years at the Artskola workshop in Algorta, in retreat with maestro Nick Alm, and at the Florency Art Sweden academy in Sweden, drawing and painting from life in the classical tradition. He now resides in Sopelana, Bizkaia.
Mikel Sierra (born in 1977 in Bilbao, Bizkaia) is a deaf boy who speaks perfectly thanks to the strong support of his family. He grew up in Algorta and currently lives in Sopela. He, even though he was a deaf child, had concerns surrounding him in his living environment. Among his hobbies stood out football, broadcast by Athletic Bilbao; the love of the waves of the sea where he practiced Bodyboarding and currently Surfing.
Thanks to his parents who instilled in him good discipline, perseverance and punctuality, a strong character, a rebellious and adventurous spirit, he began his childhood going through the EGB secondary courses, the REM institute until finishing a degree at the University of Deusto with the title of Higher Engineer in Automatic and Electronics. After the scholarship at Teckniker, he did a master’s degree in Madrid before working at a prestigious refinery, Petronor.
As a child he drew a lot, but without interest, at the age of 13 he spent less than a year in a drawing workshop in Algorta with a teacher named Sol. However, he did not find it fun since he enjoyed soccer more. I had abandoned the drawing. 30 years later, without realizing it, he rediscovers his true old passion, thanks to the impulse to draw my dog Txiki.
Nowadays he is still surprised to see that he had not lost his drawing skills.
After a year of practicing thanks to his constant talent, he signed up for a painting workshop in Algorta (Art Eskola Algorta) to learn how to mix colors with acrylic. For several months he felt very good and comfortable with the control and handling of the painting. mix of colors. He began to get to know the world of art through the great historical masters such as Velazquez, Sorolla, Fortuny, Picasso, Dali, but his inspiration came from meeting the great Dutch master Rembrandt, since he was the one who influenced him the most. This is how he entered the current of Realism. A few years later with oil, and currently mastering watercolor.
He also spent a week in Sweden on an intensive course at the Florence Art School of Sweden, where he learned the basics of traditional masters under the kindness of Swedish instructors.
His style that he currently uses is to pursue, search and find beauty in beautiful human faces as well as in human figures to apply social themes and in the company of the goodness of animals, in the surroundings of beautiful landscapes.
